I believe many of you out there, especially if you're participating actively in education forums, such as DegreeInfo, InstantDegrees shouldn't be new to you.
The massive number of questions and debates caught my interest almost immediately, and today, I'll be explaining what I've comprehended from my research. Personally, I've gotten a degree from them (for novelty and curiosity purposes) and I must say that I'm impressed with the superb quality. However, do read my post to get a better understanding before you make a purchase.
Scam? Not.
Some people are wondering, "Isn't this illegal? If so, why hasn't it been ordered to close down the website/business?" In fact, Instant Degrees has been running since 2001. Why? As they mentioned, they are operating through legal loopholes. I'll further elaborate. InstantDegrees issues 100% legal degrees by private schools accredited by private accrediting agencies. In the working society, what matters most is not the accreditation; but the first impression of the employer, and your ability. You can definitely use this degree as a 'passport' to obtain an interview opportunity. Remember, at the end of the day, you'll be the one who's working for the company, not your qualifications. You can be an university graduate; but without the right attitude, your qualification(s) would be considered as useless anyway. HOWEVER, make sure that you're not applying for any jobs that involve special requirements, such as public accountants, doctors, lawyers, police, etc. All these occupations require a specific license from individual countries.
Now I'll explain why this is legal:
In their FAQ section, InstantDegrees mentioned the following:
You must not forget that your degree is obtained by exploiting legal loopholes.
We are often asked what this means and the best definition, that neatly encapsulates the concept, is that an institution is legally formed and operating in such a way that it makes the granting of a degree legal, whereas this would otherwise be illegal.
In about 97% of degree usage scenarios, there are NO limitations.
The only real limitation is the exact same limitation that can affect ANY degree no matter where it is granted or how it is earned; accreditation. Accreditation is not legally required and is often poorly understood. This limitation affects conventional, traditional degrees as well.
There is no such thing as universal, global, guaranteed, recognition or accreditation and any supplier that tells you there is simply lying.
And yes, they are right. There are many cases whereby a regionally accredited degree have been rejected, as well. You can ask around, if you're in doubt. One good example would be: US doesn't accredit ANY foreign degrees; it only accredits schools in its jurisdictions.
Yes, accreditation would be a plus. However, with a good resume and a strong base of experience/ability, along with a legal degree; you've got nothing to lose.
Why InstantDegrees? Why not a replica degree from a reputable school, such as Harvard, instead if I'm just looking at one for Novelty purposes?
It is illegal. You can be fined, sued and charged for that. The difference between InstantDegrees is that
InstantDegrees - The whole process, certificate is legal ; Moderately recognized
Replica - The whole process, certificate is ILLEGAL; Not recognized
InstantDegrees
